Nuno Cardoso, who was mayor of Porto City Council between 1999 and 2021, died at the age of 64. The death occurred this Monday at the Hospital de Santo António in Porto, where he was admitted.
The cause of death was a prolonged illness from which the mayor was being treated. Nuno Cardoso led the Porto council for more than two decades, being one of the longest-serving mayors in the history of the municipality.
During his tenure, Nuno Cardoso was a prominent figure in Porto's local politics, significantly influencing the city's development during his 22-year mandate.
