UEFA decrees moment of silence before Champions matches

Maisfutebol7 September 2026 at 11:12

UEFA decided to impose a moment of silence before all Champions League matches in memory of the victims of the catastrophe in Nepal. The measure was taken after the devastating earthquake that hit the country in April 2015.

The moment of silence will be observed in all the semi-final matches of the European competition, which take place this week. The players from both teams will stand still in the center of the pitch during the minute of silence.

The UEFA's decision aims to pay tribute to the thousands of people affected by the tragedy in Nepal, where a large magnitude earthquake caused thousands of dead and injured. The European football federation thus expressed its solidarity with the Asian country.

The Champions League semi-finals involve four major European clubs that will compete this week in respect to the Nepalese victims through this silent tribute organized by UEFA.
