The Regional Secretariats of Parliamentary Affairs and Communities and of the Sea and Fisheries support the holding of two public sessions paying tribute to Azorean fishermen. The event, entitled "Tribute to the Portuguese Contribution to the Tuna Fishery in the Eastern Pacific", recognizes the role of Azorean professionals in this sector.
The public sessions took place on September 7 and 8, on two islands of the Azores archipelago. The event was held on the island of Faial and on the island of Pico, thus covering two important fishing communities in the region.
The tribute specifically highlights the Portuguese contribution to tuna fishing in the Eastern Pacific, a sector in which Azorean fishermen have played a significant role over the years. This initiative publicly recognizes the tradition and importance of this activity for the economy and culture of the Azores islands.
