The ETAR de Areias de Vilar, in Barcelos, finally entered operation, 17 years after it was built. The infrastructure will serve eight parishes and strengthen wastewater treatment in the Cávado river basin. The station was built in 2009, but never operated due to a conflict between the Municipality of Barcelos and another entity, which remained unresolved for almost two decades. The entry into operation represents the end of a long period of inactivity for this infrastructure that had been completed 17 years ago.
