The 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA81) kicks off on Tuesday in New York, with the central theme "Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation". The event takes place at UN headquarters and runs until the end of the month, once again bringing together world leaders to discuss the major global challenges.
This edition marks a significant moment, as it will be the last session in which António Guterres will be present in his capacity as Secretary-General of the organization. Guterres' current term, having led the UN for two periods, is thus approaching its end.
The main objective of UNGA81 is the revitalization of international cooperation and the advancement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), at a time when geopolitical tensions and global challenges require greater coordination among nations.
