Far-right crushes in Saxony-Anhalt but falls short of absolute majority in German state

The Alternative for Germany (AfD), a far-right party, achieved an expressive result in the regional elections of the German state of Saxony-Anhalt, obtaining 43.8% of the votes with all counts already tallied.

Despite the high result, the party did not achieve an absolute majority in the regional parliament, falling just three seats short of reaching that goal.

AfD's performance represents a significant milestone in German politics, demonstrating the growing strength of the far-right at the state level.

The party ran in these regional elections with a program focused on issues such as immigration and national identity, themes that seem to have resonated with a substantial portion of the Saxony-Anhalt electorate.
