The PP regional presidents who attended this Monday a conference in Madrid to support their counterpart in Ceuta, Juan Jesús Vivas, expressed themselves against the redistribution of the minor migrants currently in the autonomous city. The popular leaders consider that accepting this distribution of minors "would legitimize the invasion" that occurred at the end of July, when thousands of people crossed the border between Ceuta and Morocco irregularly.
Juan Jesús Vivas, president of Ceuta, was the host of this conference that served as a stage for the PP's mobilization around the migratory issue. The regional presidents of the party took the opportunity to demonstrate unity around their position on the management of migratory flows in the autonomous city.
The diplomatic conflict with Morocco that gave rise to the so-called "invasion" of late July led to a crisis in Ceuta's migratory management. The PP leaders argue that any agreement to host minor migrants in mainland Spanish territory would send a message of weakness and encourage new attempts at irregular entry.
This position of the PP barons contrasts with the central government's approach, which has advocated for mechanisms of territorial redistribution of minor migrants as a way to alleviate the pressure on Ceuta and Melilla. The PP thus maintains its hard line on migratory matters as part of its political strategy.
