Vital instrument for SNS management was approved, but executive director was unaware

A vital instrument for managing the National Health Service was approved by the Ministry of Finance, but the executive director of the SNS was unaware of this approval. Álvaro Almeida stated on Wednesday that the SNS global framework had not yet been approved, adding that this competence belonged to Finance.

However, Miranda Sarmento, Minister of Finance, had already signed the document the day before Álvaro Almeida's statement. This situation revealed a lack of communication between the Ministry of Finance and the executive directorate of the SNS.

The global framework is described as an essential instrument for managing the National Health Service, the Portuguese public health system. Approval by the Ministry of Finance was a necessary step for its implementation.
