Father Emanuel Mata attracts young people to the three-hundred-year-old church

On September 7, 2025, Father Emanuel Mata, at only 26 years old, took over the Parish of Válega and São Pedro, in Ovar, becoming the youngest parish priest in the Diocese of Porto.

One year after his appointment, Emanuel Mata continues to lead the three-hundred-year-old church, seeking to bring the institution closer to new generations.

The young priest has developed initiatives aimed at young people, trying to revitalize parish life and attract a new generation of faithful to the nearly 300-year-old church.

The Diocese of Porto, which is one of the oldest in the country, saw one of the youngest priests ever appointed to lead a parish arrive at its heart.
