The Portuguese three-time champions Sporting begin their participation in the Handball Champions League in a more accessible group, while FC Porto should face greater difficulties against the German Füchse Berlim and Hungarian Veszprém.

The presence of the 'dragons' in the 2026/27 edition is due to an expansion and consequent new format of the tournament, which will run from Wednesday until June 13, 2027. The Porto team received one of the 13 'wild cards' awarded by the EHF, the entity that manages the European competition.

The 'lions' of Alvalade, for their part, begin their campaign with better prospects for success, given the draw that assigned them a group considered more accessible for the current national champions.
