Rock in Rio brings together on this September 7th established artists and new stars of the music scene. Among the big names are Elton John, 79 years old, and Gilberto Gil, 84 years old, alongside emerging names like Laufey. The festival also features traditional Brazilian bands like Roupa Nova.
Ricardo Feghali, 71, keyboardist, guitarist and composer of Roupa Nova, started his career in the 1970s as a musician at dance halls in Rio de Janeiro with the band Famks, which in 1980 would become Roupa Nova. He remembers that, at that time, the required repertoire included Elton John songs, such as "Skyline Pigeon," "Rocketman," "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" and "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me," all collaborations with lyricist Bernie Taupin.
Guilherme Arantes, 73, is considered by many as the "Brazilian Elton John," being one of the biggest hitmakers on Brazilian radio, author of classics like "Meu mundo e nada mais," "Cheia de charme" and "Amanhã." Like Roupa Nova, he will also be present at the festival.
