Germany: Far-right AfD makes history, Mladić funeral tests Serbia's EU candidacy

The far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party achieved a historic victory in the regional elections in Saxony-Anhalt, marking a significant achievement for the radical right in the country.

In parallel, the funeral of war criminal Ratko Mladić, held in Belgrade, put Serbia's candidacy to the European Union to the test, generating diplomatic tensions.

Mladić was convicted of war crimes and crimes against humanity by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, including the genocide of Srebrenica.

Serbia, which seeks to join the EU, faces criticism for how it paid tribute to the former Bosnian-Serb military commander, who was considered responsible for atrocities during the Yugoslav wars of the 1990s.
