Do you store makeup in the bathroom? Understand why this habit can be a problem

oglobo7 September 2026 at 06:45

Storing makeup and skincare products in the bathroom is a common habit for convenience, since the mirror and sink are nearby, making the beauty routine easier. However, the bathroom brings together conditions that can compromise the preservation of these products. The same space where we get ready for the day accumulates heat, steam, and humidity, especially after a shower, which can accelerate changes in the texture, smell, and color of the formulas.

Dermatologist Aline Zanatta, from Revion International Clinic, warns that the expiration date should not be the only parameter for evaluating whether a cosmetic can still be used. According to her, constant heat, steam, and humidity can alter the stability of formulas even when the product is still within its expiration date.

The specialist recommends watching for signs such as foundation that begins to separate, a serum that changes color, or any different smell in the product. When these signs appear, it is important not to consider the product safe to use, regardless of whether it is still within the indicated expiration date on the packaging.
