Ulrich Siegmund, principal leader of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, publicly thanked Elon Musk after the party's historic election victory, which represents the first time since the end of World War II that a far-right party wins an election in Germany. Siegmund wrote on the X platform that Musk would have helped or influenced the party's campaign.
In the message, Siegmund specifically thanked the billionaire for his "support and for his clear and highly important perspective on the political developments of our time – including here in Germany." The politician also took the opportunity to invite Musk to invest in the region that the AfD will now govern, stating that "if we are going to take responsibility here, I see with great optimism the opportunity for strong and constructive cooperation" and that "Germany would once again be a place worth investing in."
The message was published after Musk himself commented on the election of Alice Weidel, national spokesperson and co-founder of the party, celebrating the victory. The situation highlights the connection between the German far-right party and the South African businessman, owner of the X platform, Tesla and SpaceX, who has publicly positioned himself in favor of right-wing movements in Europe and the United States.
