Von der Leyen arrives in Greenland with a "substantial package of measures"

dnoticias.pt7 September 2026 at 05:12

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, arrived yesterday in Greenland for an official visit during which she intends to reaffirm the European Union's commitment to the Danish autonomous territory. Upon her arrival in Nuuk, the territory's capital, the European leader stated that she was bringing "a substantial package of measures" to present.

Von der Leyen recalled that she had visited Greenland two years ago and on that occasion promised to return with a substantial package of measures. During her arrival, the President publicly declared that she was going to fulfill that previously made promise.

The visit comes in a context of threats from the Trump administration toward the Greenlandic territory, which prompted the EU to want to demonstrate its support and commitment to Greenland as an autonomous territory belonging to Denmark. The announced package of measures aims precisely to strengthen that relationship between the European Union and the Arctic territory.
