American Beau Welling was yesterday re-elected president of the World Curling Federation for a new four-year term, during a world congress held in Bratislava. The vote confirmed the continuity of the international curling federation's leadership.

Portugal was represented at the congress by the Winter Sports Federation of Portugal (FDI-Portugal), through director João Cardoso and national curling team coach Fiona Simpson. The Portuguese delegation took the opportunity to defend the evolution of competitive formats in emerging federations.

In a statement, FDI-Portugal highlighted the desire to continue involved not only in the growth of the sport in Portugal, but also in the discussion about the development of curling at the international level, particularly in countries where the practice is still in its initial phase.

The Portuguese position at the Bratislava congress reflects the country's interest in actively participating in the decisions that shape the future of world curling, especially regarding the adaptation of rules and competitive formats to facilitate the expansion of the sport in emerging markets.
