Flamengo beat Remo in the 26th round of the Brazilian Championship and took the lead of the competition. However, the team could lose the spot to Palmeiras if the green-and-white club beat Botafogo at Nilton Santos Stadium. The teams, however, ended in a goalless draw, which kept Flamengo in first place in the tournament.
Given this "little help" from the rival, Flamengo decided to set aside regional rivalry and used various memes on social media to thank Botafogo for the contribution. The red-and-black club's communication team created creative posts to celebrate maintaining the lead in the championship.
In one of the memes, Flamengo used a viral image from social media of the cartoon Woody Woodpecker, where a secondary character thanks the main character for the help. The communication team adapted the image by adding the crests of Flamengo and Botafogo to thank the rival for the result.
In another post, the club used a photo of a well-known fireworks shop called "Mengão Fogos," which combines the names of the two rival teams. The posts also featured videos of interactions between the clubs on social media.
