PCP does not pay VAT or IMI at Festa do Avante!... but the benefit is transversal to all political parties

SAPO Notícias6 September 2026 at 23:28

Since Friday, the PCP has been holding the 50th edition of the Festa do Avante!, which ends today, at Quinta da Atalaia in Seixal. The political-cultural event brings together thousands of people annually and is one of the party's largest gatherings.

The party does not pay VAT or IMI in organizing this festival, but this benefit is not exclusive to the PCP. According to the law, all political parties are entitled to tax exemptions on their partisan activities, which makes this situation transversal to all political forces in the country.

The festival, which celebrates its fiftieth edition this year, combines cultural programming with political activities, attracting communists and sympathizers from across the country during the three-day event. The event takes place on the party's property in Seixal, Setúbal district.

The Eclipse of Reason: The Illusion of the Single Police

The article critically analyzes the extinction of the Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF) and its replacement by the Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum (AIMA), arguing that this restructuring caused a dispersion of competencies that compromises the effectiveness of migratory and border control in Portugal. The author questions the political decision behind this change, suggesting that the so-called "single police" is an illusion that results in function overlaps and security gaps.
