Benfica 'punishes' FC Porto and overtakes... Sporting

SAPO6 September 2026 at 22:51

Benfica won the Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira, defeating FC Porto and becoming the record-holding team with the most trophies in this competition. The red team thus managed to overtake Sporting, who until then shared the status of greatest winner of the Supertaça.

The dragons were defeated by the reds in what was a decision marked by a historic conquest for the Lisbon side. The Luz team thus returned to the top of this competition after two consecutive years of failure.

After two years of losing the Supertaça, the team led by Benfica finally managed to be happy again in this decision, breaking a negative cycle that had been ongoing since their last victory in the competition.

With this triumph, Benfica consolidates their status in Portuguese football, adding another trophy to their history and establishing a new record of Supertaças won throughout their history.
