On the first dawn of January 1, 2007, the Black Eyed Peas performed on the stage set up at Posto Oito on Ipanema Beach in Rio de Janeiro, in front of over 1 million people, according to the event organizers. The performance went down in the history of the band and the city, and featured light rain, confetti, and Fergie wearing a princess crown. Sérgio Mendes joined the show playing "Mas que nada" with the band.

The show was part of the "Nokia New Year's Eve," an international event that connected New Year's Eve parties held simultaneously in cities like Rio, New York, Berlin, Mumbai, and Hong Kong. In Ipanema, the programming began hours before the countdown and brought together Brazilian and foreign artists.

Until then, Copacabana had been the main destination for New Year's Eve parties in Rio de Janeiro. The choice of Ipanema to host the international event represented a significant shift in the city's tradition for this celebration.

In addition to the Black Eyed Peas, other artists performed on the stage, including John Legend, Sérgio Mendes, DJ Marlboro, Funk'n'Lata, and the Grande Rio drum corps. The event transformed Ipanema into a historic destination for major celebrations at the turn of the year.
