A pitbull named Pirata was shot in Complexo de Israel, territory controlled by criminal Peixão, in Cidade Alta, in the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro. The incident occurred this Sunday (6), when the animal escaped from home and roamed the streets of the community. According to residents' reports, Pirata allegedly advanced toward a child, and a shot was fired at the dog.
The animal was rescued by local residents and taken to the Municipal Veterinary Hospital São Francisco de Assis in Irajá. The Municipal Secretariat for Animal Protection and Defense reported that the dog was experiencing severe bleeding. At the hospital, the veterinary team performed surgery to remove the projectile, which was .40 caliber.
Following the surgical procedure, Pirata was taken back by the person who had rescued him. The owner received guidance on necessary care for the dog during recovery.
