Chega leader André Ventura today congratulated the far-right party Alternative for Germany (AfD) on the "historic victory" achieved in the elections in the state of Saxony-Anhalt, through a message published on social media X.

The AfD party won the regional elections in the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt, in eastern Germany, achieving 44.5% of the vote, according to projections published by the German public broadcasters ARD and ZDF.

André Ventura, who is also a Member of the European Parliament, expressed his public support for the German party, describing the result as an unprecedented victory, although he acknowledged that it was still uncertain whether the party would have an absolute majority in the regional parliament.

This is not the first time the Chega leader has shown closeness to European far-right parties, in a strategy of approaching and mutual recognition between these political formations in the European context.
