Without citing Fachin, Dino questions plan to close 'very old' investigations, such as the fake news one

Minister Edson Fachin, president of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), defended the end of the fake news investigation, which has been ongoing for seven years. The position was stated two days before another controversial movement at the Court.

Minister Flávio Dino expressed himself on social media questioning the validity of a Court member promising the closure of an investigation that has been running for a long time. Dino did not directly cite Fachin in his post, but made reference to the practice of "promising" the end of an investigation.

In the post, Dino questioned whether it is possible for a judge to "promise" the end of an investigation as if it were a candidate, and defended the conclusion of investigations, whether through criminal charges or applicable archiving. The minister also raised a doctrinal debate about whether an investigation should be archived before the prescriptive period solely due to long processing time.

The crisis at the STF escalated on Thursday with a request filed by Minister Alexandre de Moraes for Minister André Mendonça to be investigated.
