The PCP's Secretary-General, Jerónimo de Sousa, used the Avante Festival to criticize the possible enabling of the State Budget by PS. According to the communist leader, if PS enables the Budget, it will be giving conditions to the Government to "escalate the attack" against workers' and the population's rights.
Jerónimo de Sousa argued that enabling by PS would free the Chega party from having to assume responsibility for approving more extreme measures. In this way, the PCP positioned itself against any understanding that allows the executive to advance with policies it considers harmful.
The Avante Festival is traditionally the PCP's main annual event, where the party presents its political positions and mobilizes its militant base. In this context, Jerónimo de Sousa's statements represent a warning to PS about the consequences of a possible budget agreement.
