Mastiksoul and "Os Garridos": the unlikely encounter that conquered Alandroal (w/video)

Last Saturday, during the Youth Festival at Alandroal Castle, an unlikely musical collaboration took place between Mastiksoul, one of the most recognized names in Portuguese electronic music, and the group "Os Garridos", dedicated to Cante Alentejano. The event brought together two seemingly distant musical universes, creating a combination that surprised those who attended.

Mastiksoul, born in Angola in 1977, built a successful career crossing Latin, African and tribal rhythms with house and contemporary dance music. The DJ and producer achieved international recognition and collaborated with artists such as Akon, Bob Sinclar, Shaggy and Mariza.

"Os Garridos" were born in May 2020 in Rio de Moinhos, in the municipality of Borba, by initiative of a group of friends who wanted to address the absence of an active Cante Alentejano group in the parish. The group's main objective is to value and disseminate this cultural expression, recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.

The special moment brought together tradition and modernity in a historic setting, proving that Cante Alentejano can reinvent itself and dialogue with different musical languages without losing its essence.
