FIFA officially confirmed that Gianni Infantino will run for president of the entity in 2027. A spokesperson for the organization confirmed the re-candidacy of the Italian-Swiss executive.
Infantino has been in the position since 2016, when he took over after Sepp Blatter's resignation. Since then, he has been elected to two consecutive terms.
The confirmation comes amid debates about the future of world football and the expansion of competitions such as the World Cup, which expanded to 48 teams under his leadership.
With the re-candidacy confirmed, Infantino is expected to seek a third term at the head of the entity that governs international football.
