The Portuguese Government approved in Council of Ministers, on September 4, the start of the negotiation phase with Air France-KLM and Lufthansa for the acquisition of a stake of up to 44.9% of TAP's capital. The decision represents a new step in the reprivatization process of the Portuguese airline.
The two competitors for the stake in TAP are Air France-KLM and Lufthansa, in a process that places the two major European airlines in direct dispute for the position in the capital of the Portuguese company.
The negotiation for this stake of up to 44.9% is part of the Government's plan to partially reprivatize TAP, likely maintaining a significant share in the hands of the Portuguese State or national interests.
