The coaching duo composed of Nuno Dias, based in Benedita, and Paulo Luís, a native of the town, won the National futsal Super Cup for Sporting on Saturday, in a match held in Vila do Conde. The lions defeated Benfica 3-2, after extra time, adding their 9th Super Cup to the duo's career and the 13th for Sporting.
In the match, Tomás Paçó opened the scoring for Sporting at 16 minutes, but Afonso Jesus equalized for the red and whites three minutes later, sending the match to extra time. In extra time, the Alvalade side was stronger and went to halftime with a two-goal advantage, scored by Wesley and Filipe Valério. In the second half, Pany Varela reduced the deficit for Benfica, but was unable to avoid defeat.
With this victory, Sporting enters the new season in the best possible way, where they intend to reconquer the national title, the Cup of Portugal and the League Cup, competitions they watched rival Benfica lift last season. In European competitions, the team coached by the Benedita duo enters as title holders, a status they will seek to maintain in 2026/27. In total, they now have 38 titles serving the green and white emblem.
