IFA 2026: Xiaomi wants to put smart cars on European roads in 2027

Euronews Portugal6 September 2026 at 16:38

Xiaomi announced at IFA 2026 that it intends to launch electric cars in Europe by 2027, marking a significant expansion beyond its traditional mobile phone business. The Chinese company aims to position itself as a complete technology brand, diversifying its product portfolio.

The Xiaomi electric cars will be integrated into the brand's home ecosystem, designated as "Human x Car x Home". This strategy aims to create a connected experience between personal devices, vehicles, and the smart home, allowing seamless interaction between all equipment.

The decision to move forward into the European electric car market represents a bold step for Xiaomi, which until now was mostly known for its smartphones and consumer electronic devices. The company will face competition from other manufacturers already established in the European electric vehicle market.

Isar conducts first European commercial launch into orbit

German company Isar Aerospace became the first commercial company to place a rocket into orbit from Europe, successfully launching the Spectrum with five small satellites from the Andøya centre in Norway. This was the second attempt, after the first mission failed 30 seconds after takeoff 18 months ago. Founded in 2018 and valued at approximately two billion euros, the company plans to produce 40 rockets per year and has reserved capacity until the end of 2028. The launch occurs in a context where Europe has carried out only seven successful launches in 2025, far behind the approximately 180 in the United States and 90 in China, with demand from defence clients having increased significantly to 60% of the total.

WhatsApp scams are increasingly 'impossible' to detect: learn to recognize the signs and protect yourself

Scams through WhatsApp are becoming increasingly difficult to detect, with the National Cybersecurity Center warning about schemes such as "Hello, dad... Hello, mom", where criminals pretend to be family members with new numbers to request urgent money. Authorities recommend confirming identity through other channels before acting, never sharing authentication codes or banking data, and avoiding clicking on suspicious links. Besides fake family members, there are also scams involving fake jobs, investments, and online sales. European authorities warn that the use of artificial intelligence is making some frauds even more sophisticated. If you are a victim, you should immediately contact your bank and file a complaint with the authorities.
