Antonelli signs an epic comeback in Monza

El Periódico Mediterráneo - General6 September 2026 at 16:10

Kimi Antonelli, Mercedes driver, made history by winning the Italian Grand Prix at Monza this Sunday. The young driver from Bologna achieved an extraordinary feat by completing an impressive comeback from 19th position on the starting grid to first place, surpassing all his opponents.

This victory marks a historic moment for Italian motorsport, as since 1966, when Ludovico Scarfiotti won with Ferrari, no Italian driver had managed to triumph at home. Antonelli not only matched that achievement, but surpassed it by a significant margin, as Scarfiotti started from a much more favorable position in that race.

The podium was completed with George Russell, Antonelli's teammate at Mercedes, in second place, and Max Verstappen, from Red Bull, in third place. This race represents an important milestone in Antonelli's young career, as he demonstrated a remarkable recovery ability and consistency throughout the competition.
