Around 30 people are believed to have disembarked during the night on Praia da Foz, in the Meco area, in Sesimbra. The information was reported by the National Maritime Authority, which confirmed having received an alert about the incident.
The alert was given by a fisherman, who reported to the authorities that he had observed a group of people disembarking on that beach during the night.
The GNR is conducting searches in the area to locate the people who are believed to have disembarked, in an operation involving maritime and military authorities.
The incident occurred at dawn, when visibility conditions and the darkness may have facilitated approach to the coast without being detected.
