Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemned Sunday's Israeli attacks, September 6, against Nabatieh and several neighboring cities in the south of the country, which killed at least four people and wounded 20. Aoun denounced a "dangerous escalation" due to the attacks targeting state institutions and medical centers, including the Finance Ministry building in Nabatieh, which suffered significant damage, and Ghandour hospital, which was destroyed.
The Lebanese head of state stated that the bombings go beyond repeated violations of the ceasefire agreement and the framework agreement signed in June, noting that this time the targets were civilian facilities essential to the population. Aoun also recalled an earlier attack on a state security center that resulted in deaths, emphasizing that civilian administrations and health facilities are being targeted.
Israel stated that its forces were responding to the launch of two drones by the Shiite group Hezbollah against Israeli soldiers in the so-called "security zone" in southern Lebanon, having shot down one of the drones. According to the latest data from the Lebanese Ministry of Health, Israeli attacks have killed 4,358 people in the country since March 2, shortly after the start of the war between the US and Israel against Iran.
Aoun held Israel fully responsible for the escalation of violence and urged the United States and the international community to take immediate measures to stop the violations and hold the aggressors accountable. Despite the attacks, the Lebanese President stated that Lebanon remains committed to preserving its sovereignty, the stability of the south of the country, and the security of its citizens.
