Gilmar Mendes proposes to block police officers as advisors in STF chambers

Minister Gilmar Mendes, of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), presented on Saturday (5) a proposal to prevent police officers from working as advisors in the chambers of the Court's ministers. The suggestion was made amid a crisis between ministers Alexandre de Moraes and André Mendonça.

The proposal will be analyzed by the other ministers of the STF. The conflict between the two magistrates involves the work of a federal police officer as an advisor to André Mendonça, who was also appointed by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Gilmar Mendes argues that the presence of police officers in the chambers may generate conflicts of interest and compromise the independence of the court. The measure aims to establish clearer rules on the composition of the ministers' work teams.

The analysis of the proposal occurs at a moment of tension in the Court, with the ministers having to decide on the criteria for the selection of advisors in their respective chambers.
