Gianni Infantino officially announced his re-candidacy for the FIFA presidency. The current leader thus intends to secure a new term at the helm of the organization that governs world football.
Opponents who wish to run for the position have until November 18th to formally submit their candidacies.
Infantino has been in command of FIFA since 2016, having been elected to replace Sepp Blatter following the corruption scandal that rocked the organization. The Swiss-Italian was subsequently re-elected in 2019 at a congress where he was the only candidate.
Infantino's re-candidacy comes at a time when FIFA continues to recover its international reputation following the scandals that marked the previous leadership of the institution.
