The United States envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner arrived in Kiev on Sunday for their first official visit to Ukraine. The visit is part of a renewed diplomatic effort by the American administration regarding the conflict in Ukraine.
Before arriving in Kiev, the two American envoys met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. This sequence of diplomatic meetings demonstrates an attempt by Washington to maintain parallel negotiations with both parties to the conflict.
Witkoff, who had previously visited Moscow to meet with Putin, and Kushner, the son-in-law of former President Donald Trump, represent a renewed effort by American diplomacy to try to advance a peace process.
The visit to Kiev marks the first time Witkoff and Kushner have officially visited Ukraine in this diplomatic capacity, signaling a new chapter in United States involvement in attempts to resolve the conflict.
