The Sé Catedral de Santarém secured a place in the national finals of the 7 Wonders of Popular Culture. The Municipality of Santarém expressed its pride at the classification on social media.
The Sé Catedral began as the Church of Nossa Senhora da Conceição do Colégio dos Jesuítas. Construction of the building began in the 1620s, according to a design by architect Mateus do Couto. The building was developed over time, acquiring the dimension and importance it enjoys today.
