Abel Ferreira, coach of Palmeiras, received a punishment of two games of suspension after kicking a microphone during or after a match. The punishment was applied due to this inappropriate conduct by the Portuguese coach.
However, the Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD) decided to apply a suspended sentence to the coach. This means that the suspension was conditionally postponed, allowing Abel Ferreira to remain on the bench.
With this decision by the STJD, Abel Ferreira may be present on the Palmeiras bench during the match against Botafogo, which would be the match for which he would serve the suspension. The suspended sentence means that the punishment will only be served if there is a new infraction within a determined period.
The case drew attention for involving a coach from one of the main clubs in Brazilian football and for showing how disciplinary procedures work in national sports through the STJD, which has the power to review and modify previous decisions.
