Cebola Mol, Inês Aires Pereira, Pedro Tochas, Cuca Monga and Tributo Pop cancelled their participation in the Commedia a La Carte Fest, a new comedy festival organized by César Mourão in Lisbon, in protest against Jerry Seinfeld's presence at the event. Actress Inês Aires Pereira publicly announced on Saturday that she would not be participating in the festival, explicitly stating her solidarity with Palestine.
Inês Aires Pereira stated that she cannot "relativize or normalize a genocide," referring to the situation in Gaza. The artist recalled that one of the invited names in the festival's programming, without directly mentioning Jerry Seinfeld, "supports" positions that she cannot endorse.
Jerry Seinfeld, known for his work in comedy and the television series bearing his name, has been targeted by criticism from pro-Palestinian movements due to his support for Israel. His presence at the festival thus became the central point of controversy that led to the wave of cancellations.
The Commedia a La Carte Fest, an event still in its first edition, now faces a series of withdrawals from well-known figures in Portuguese comedy, who decided to boycott the festival as a form of protest.
