Roberto Medina, president and creator of Rock in Rio, celebrated this first Sunday of the festival's tenth edition as the day when Calvin Harris was the first to sell out tickets, declaring that "the market is hungry for parties." For the first time in the event's history, a DJ will be the biggest attraction on the main stage.
The Scottish Calvin Harris, 42 years old, took the stage after emerging in 2007 as an indie dance prodigy with the album "I created disco" and conquering global hits like "Outside," "Summer," and "We found love" in partnership with Rihanna, all surpassing the one billion plays mark on Spotify.
Medina revealed he had to fight for approximately two months to convince the production to accept a DJ as headliner. According to him, there was initial resistance with comments like "But wait, a DJ?" but argued that Rock in Rio needs to reflect the moment the country is living, seeking to bring joy to the audience.
The Sunday lineup also featured performances by Xamã and Jota Quest singing Tim Maia, in addition to mentioning the rain that fell at Cidade do Rock during metal day, forcing the audience to wear capes over their characteristic black t-shirts of the style.
