The Spanish party Vox, led by Santiago Abascal, is consolidating its Ibero-American alliances in a year full of elections on both sides of the Atlantic. Abascal has devoted much of his efforts to position himself as a first-tier European reference in the growing space of international extreme right.
In less than a decade, Vox went from an extraparliamentary party to the third political force in the fourth economy of the European Union. Currently, the party is part of the regional government in four Spanish autonomous communities: Extremadura, Aragon, Castile and León, and Andalusia.
Santiago Abascal also serves as president of Patriots, a European group promoted by the former Hungarian Prime Minister, Viktor Orbán, and the French Marine Le Pen. The latter is expected to run again for the Presidency of France next spring.
