The speculative investment culture in Spain remains more alive than ever. The investment adventure of Spanish citizens has undergone many transformations since the "matildes", those Telefónica shares, gave way to the stock market explosion that began in the mid-1980s. Back then, even at university, some joked about the possibility of investing 5,000 pesetas in the stock market. Several actually went ahead and bought shares.
