Lucía Pérez (25 years old): "I invest to have an economic cushion for the future, thinking about retirement"

El Periódico Mediterráneo - General6 September 2026 at 05:00

Lucía Pérez, a 25-year-old young woman, is one of the representatives of a new generation of Spaniards who invest in the stock market. She states she invests to have a financial cushion for the future, thinking about retirement. Carlos, Lucía, David and Fran share this characteristic: they are young and invest in the stock market. This trend is growing increasingly in this age group.

The phenomenon is driven by access to technology and the search to ensure economic security in the future. According to a report by the Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU), one in three young Spaniards between the ages of 18 and 35 invested in financial markets during the last year.

However, the profile of these young investors is one of caution. More than half of those who invested allocated less than 1,000 euros to financial markets, indicating moderate and prudent investments.

A complementary study by BBVA Research raises this picture to show that 46.2% of young Spaniards have invested in financial markets at some point, an even larger proportion than indicated by the OCU.
