Over a hundred Venezuelan diaspora organizations made an appeal on Saturday for the Venezuelan Government and opposition to include the nearly 7.8 millionVenezuelans living abroad in the dialogue about a democratic transition in the country. The request was formalized by these organizations representing Venezuelan migrants spread around the world.
The Venezuelan diaspora, which corresponds to approximately a quarter of the country's total population, has been seeking representation in the political negotiations that could lead to a change in the Venezuelan regime. The organizers of the appeal argue that migrants are directly affected by Venezuela's political and economic situation and, therefore, should have a voice in discussions about the country's future.
This request comes in a context of dialogue attempts between Nicolás Maduro's government and the Venezuelan opposition to find a solution to the political crisis that has been ongoing for years. Including emigrants in the conversations represents an additional challenge for the negotiations, considering the difficulty of representing the interests of such a geographically dispersed population.
