Last year of term: Barrachina prioritizes security, roads and sport to seal the change at the Castellón Provincial Council

El Periódico Mediterráneo - General6 September 2026 at 05:02

The Provincial Council of Castellón began the last political period of the current legislative term with the objective of carrying out the main projects before the next elections. President Marta Barrachina, of the Popular Party, leads the executive that states that the institution "is here for things to happen, not for days to pass," demonstrating urgency to finalize the works begun after the 2023 elections.

Three central projects dominate the agenda for the coming months: security, roads and sport. These areas were identified as priorities to consolidate the change promised by the provincial administration during this term.

The timing is relevant, as the election date approaches, making this period particularly important for the conclusion of pending political initiatives. The institution wants to demonstrate concrete results to the population before the next electoral consultation.

More than half of Germans consider the Alternative for Germany (AfD) an "extremist" party and fear it may come to power, even in a state of minor political weight like Saxony-Anhalt, according to an Ipsos poll. The study reveals that 41% of Germans are "enormously" concerned about this possibility, while another 12% also share this fear.
