Poppy performed at Rock in Rio's Sunset Stage on a rainless Saturday night. The artist, whose real name is Moriah Rose Pereira, is descended from the Portuguese colony in Boston, United States, and took the stage leading a masked band in the Slipknot style, wearing a very short dress in the colors of Brazil's flag and tall boots.
The show opened with the song "Have you had enough?", which alternates soft vocals with guttural screams, followed by "The cost of giving up". The Sunset stage was packed with an audience, and Poppy asked to see mosh pits, getting them during the heavier parts of the songs.
Critics point out that two factors didn't help the performance. One was the song dynamics, alternating softer sections where her vocal timbre resembles Katy Perry's with more aggressive moments. The other problem mentioned was the sound.
The overall assessment of the show was positive visually, with the artist appearing "radiant," but the musical performance couldn't sustain itself according to the published review.
