Montemor-o-Novo and Cuba strengthen cooperation with intermunicipal protocol

Rádio Campanário5 September 2026 at 19:55

The Municipalities of Montemor-o-Novo and Cuba celebrated a Cooperation Protocol with the aim of strengthening relations of proximity and cooperation between the two Alentejo municipalities. This protocol is particularly based on the historical connection of the two municipalities to the Alentejo Railway Line and the railway connection between Casa Branca and Cuba.

The protocol aims to promote and deepen intermunicipal cooperation in areas such as culture, sports, youth, and territorial enhancement. Among the planned actions are the promotion of joint initiatives, the circulation of artists, associations, athletes, sports teams, young people, and other cultural and social agents, as well as the dynamization of their respective local fairs.

The first moment of this exchange takes place with the participation of Montemor artist Zinko at the Annual Fair of Cuba. The journey will begin in Casa Branca, through a musical train trip to Cuba, enhancing the existing railway infrastructure as a connecting element between people, territories, and communities.

With this protocol, Montemor-o-Novo and Cuba intend to recover and enhance the memory of a historical connection that brought territories and populations closer together, projecting it into the future through a joint cooperation strategy involving different sectors of society.
