Thousands of people demonstrated on Saturday against the far right and in favor of democracy in Magdeburg Cathedral Square, capital of the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt, in Germany. This demonstration took place on the eve of regional elections in the same federal state.
In parallel, the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party held its campaign closing event nearby, during the same day. The participants in the demonstration expressed their position against the far-right party.
The popular mobilization represented a signal of rejection of the far right in the electoral context that was approaching in Saxony-Anhalt.
