The Association of Voluntary Blood Donors of Portalegre (ADBSP) commemorated today its 36th anniversary, marking another year of activity in promoting blood donation in the region.
The vice-president of the association, Paulo Cardoso, considered that blood donation cannot be treated as "the poor relative" of the National Health Service, defending that this area deserves greater recognition and appreciation from health authorities.
Cardoso demanded more investment in human resources and means to guarantee blood reserves throughout the national territory, highlighting the importance of strengthening the necessary conditions for the collection and storage of blood.
The Portalegre association thus continues to play a fundamental role in raising awareness about voluntary blood donation, alerting to the need for a stronger commitment from the NHS to ensure the country's transfusion autonomy.
