At least two people died, more than 81 were injured and at least seven remain missing after a strong explosion recorded at a military base in Viacha, a town located about 30 kilometers from La Paz, the capital of Bolivia. Bolivian authorities reported that the explosion occurred around 2:30 PM in an area used to store pyrotechnic material.
Images recorded by witnesses show the exact moment of the explosion and how dozens of people run to save themselves seconds after the powerful detonation shook the military facilities. The blast originated in a fireworks depot belonging to the Ministry of Defense.
Although the causes of the accident have not yet been determined, the first reports point to a fireworks depot as the source of the explosion. The investigation to clarify what happened is still ongoing.
