Zelensky orders suspension of attacks against Russia

RTP Notícias5 September 2026 at 17:50

The president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, ordered the suspension of attacks against Russia. This decision represents a change in Ukraine's military posture that it has maintained during the conflict.

According to the announcement made by Ukraine, until Monday the country is willing to refrain from carrying out attacks on Moscow. This measure was presented as a gesture of good faith in the context of peace negotiations.

In exchange, Ukraine expects the Russians to do the same regarding Kyiv, asking for reciprocity in military operations. This proposal for a mutual ceasefire comes at a time of diplomatic efforts to try to end the war.

The suspension of attacks represents an attempt to create a favorable environment for possible negotiations between the two countries, showing an unusual openness from Ukraine for a temporary ceasefire.
